Lily Sawtell exhibits her figures regularly at the two main Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) events, Chelsea and Hampton Court Palace flower shows. She works from her home studio near Wells in Somerset and can be visited there by appointment outside of show times.
Lily studied sculpture at Harrow School of Art in London, and her figures have gone to collectors as far afield as the U.S., New Zealand and Australia, as well as throughout the U.K. and Europe. Lily's love of African and Oceanic art is clearly reflected in her work and the early influence of Brancusi and Modigliani have contributed to the special character of her figures.
Lily likes her sculpture to be practical, which is why she enjoys making fountains and planters. And she likes a happy life, which you can feel in her work. As the writer John Irving said, "Life is serious, but art is fun!" Wise words indeed.
